The aviator 8 just arrived. First impression is very good. And light 🙂 I’m curious as to what settings do you use. I ended up using the high cut knob all the way open and boosting the mids at 3 o clock is my favourite for now. It makes the gain much warmer and more vintage tone like, I guess. I’ll try to post a sound clip of the guitar and amp soon.

Sold it today:) I was thinking the exact same thing, easier to use an 8″ with a 12″ cabinet than the other way around. So aviator 8 it is.

The quest for tone can be quite fun:) I also ordered an atomic brain, very curious how the two of them sound together.

That’s ok:) I’m currently using d’addario flatwounds 0.11 and changed the g string to an unwound one. Although I plan to experiment with different brands of strings I think I like this setup.

The antiquities are a charm: I feel much more conscious about my picking because they’re so dynamic. I used to be a full volume hard picking guy all of the time, so that’s something to work on. But I’m getting there.

I seem to be in a gear Renaissance period: I’m about to sell my hot rod deville 212 to order an aviator 8 or 12 ( still can’t make up my mind) and gave just ordered an atomic brain. Can’t wait to give them all a go.

Got the SD antiquities installed. I really love those pickups. Super dynamic and warm, I really feel like my right hand is in control now.

Ive had the chance to pick one up the other day, fully intended to buy it. But I didn’t. Something just felt off, like its a quality guitar but not the real thing. Can’t really explain it. So I just decided to invest some money into my epi 56 gold top reissue. I already replaced the tuners with grovers and set up a bigsby. I’m thinking about replacing the wiring and put some sd antiquities p90 pickups in them. Tommy, your tokai gold top sounds superb, you did any modding?

Yes it does! I’m leaning towards putting my blues Jr. back to life. I found this site http://billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=65 seems like he’s very much alive. Do you recall which mods he made to your amp?

Hi guys. I’m new to this forum, so firstly, Hello.

I’m in the market for a new amp (I think) I currently own a fender hot rod Sevilla which I’m not too impressed by and a blues Jr. Which needs some work. I found a used bass man 59 reissued or a fair price, but I’m not sure if it will provide the tone I’m looking for. I have been checking out the quilter aviator Amps online and everyone seems to love them. I was just wondering about your opinions on both these amps.

Also, maybe I’ll just try to put some new life into my blues Jr. Never had it serviced or the tubes replaced in maybe 14 years. Is there any way to mod it to get a nice day breaking up vintage sound?

I hope I’m not asking strange questions. Your opinions would be appreciated.

Hi all. I just found out about this forum yesterday (never tried looking for an actual website of Tommy ) and already I found out some great stuff. For example in all those years of finding the right tone, no one ever told me about phase shifting your pickups. If only I knew that earlier.

Anyway, my name is max from the Netherlands. Been playing guitar since I was 14, and I’m 34 now. If only o practiced more during those 20 years:) I love roots music and would like to know how to play west coast swing and jump blues better. Nice to meet you all!
